Russian President Vladimir Putin said today from St. Petersburg, answering a German agency’s question that he was open to the possibility of a conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, as long as the German side demanded. If there is such an initiative, Mr Putin assured, he would accept the call. “We’re always open to it,” he insisted. At the same time, the Russian president hastened to remind that he did not consider Germany neutral in the war in Ukraine – the “Special Military Operation”, in the terminology he uses after he ordered the Russian army’s invasion of the Ukrainian territory, on the 24th of February.
