Putin’s opening to Kim Yong Un: ‘Russia and North Korea will expand their relations’

Russian President Vladimir Putin has assured North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that the two countries will “expand broad and constructive bilateral relations with joint efforts,” North Korea’s state-run KCNA news agency reported.

In a letter to Mr Kim on the occasion of the anniversary of North Korea’s liberation, Mr Putin says that closer relations would be in the interests of the two states and would help strengthen the security and stability of the Korean Peninsula and of the Northeast Asian region, KCNA added.

Kim also sent a letter to Putin in which he says Russia-North Korea friendship has been forged since World War II with the victory over Japan, which had occupied the Korean peninsula.

“Strategic and tactical cooperation, support and solidarity” between the two countries, Kim argues in his letter, has since reached a new level, which constitutes the two countries’ joint efforts to thwart threats and provocations from hostile militaries. forces.

KCNA did not specify which hostile forces Kim is referring to, but he usually uses the term when referring to the United States and its allies.

Kim predicts that cooperation between Russia and North Korea will develop based on the agreement signed in 2019 when he met with Putin.

North Korea in July recognized two Russian-backed breakaway “people’s republics” of Donetsk and Lugansk in eastern Ukraine as independent states, and officials had raised the prospect of sending North Korean workers to the regions to help with construction and other work. .
