Vladimir Putin has been accused by Western governments of amassing a vast secret fortune through a network of oligarchs and friends. However, there is little evidence on the papers linking Putin to assets or benevolent friends.
A possible connection has now emerged, according to the Guardian. A survey by the Organized Crime and Corruption Report and the Meduza news site identified a group of 86 seemingly unrelated companies or nonprofits that appear to own more than $ 4.5 billion in assets. .
The assets apparently owned by the agencies include a number of luxury homes, yachts and vineyards previously linked to media reports with the Russian president. The telecommunications company that hosts the domain name on its servers is closely linked to Bank Rossiya, which is described by the US Treasury Department as “the personal bank for senior officials of the Russian Federation”.
None of the individuals or entities associated with the email address agreed to comment on the investigation, the Guardian notes, adding that there is no indication that all LLCInvest.ru users are involved in the management of assets linked to “The president of the Russian Federation has no connection to the assets and organizations you mentioned,” a Kremlin spokesman said.
The Black Sea Palace
A 1 1 billion palace that Alexei Navalny claims was built for Putin’s personal use in Gelendzhik on the Black Sea. Billionaire oligarch Arkady Rotenberg, who is under sanctions by the EU and the US, has claimed ownership of the property.
Company records kept by the Spark database in Russia have reported since June that the property belongs to a company called Kompleks whose parent company is Binom. The director of the company at Binom until July last year seems to have a registered email domain LLCInvest.ru. LLCinvest.ru remains in contact with Spark, Russia’s largest corporate database.
The vineyards of the Black Sea
These are acres of vineyards around Gelendzhik Palace. Navalny claimed that wineries were a “hobby” of Putin that had spiraled out of control. The vineyards surrounding the palace belong to a non-profit organization founded by two of Putin’s associates, Gennady Timchenko and Vladimir Colbin, both of whom are also subject to Western sanctions. Kolbin and others associated with the vineyards appear to have email accounts on LLCInvest.ru.
Igora ski resort and racetrack
It’s the Igora ski resort in the Leningrad region where Putin’s daughter was married in 2013. According to land records, it is owned by Ozon, a company owned by Putin’s friend, chairman and largest shareholder in Bank Rossiya, Yuri Kovalchuk. which is under western sanctions, has a large share. The LLCInvest.ru email account is a contact in the Spark files of Ozon’s parent company, Relax.
The “Hut” of the Fisherman “
A “Dacha”, a holiday home associated with Putin north of St. Petersburg, known as the “Fisherman’s Hut”, on the shores of Lake Ladoga near Valaam Island. Emails leaked from a construction company suggest that three different companies that appear to be using the domain name LLCInvest own different plots around the complex, while a fourth entity with an email address is LLCInvest – a non-profit organization called Revival of Maritime Traditions. – managed the construction.
Villa Selgren
A villa north of St. Petersburg, known to locals as “Putin’s Dacha”. This 46-meter, $ 23 million yacht with five decks and 10 bedrooms was built in 2015 by Sanlorenzo. According to the boat tracking site MarineTraffic, Shellest frequently travels between Gelendzhik, the resort town near Putin’s Black Sea palace, and the port of Sochi.
It belongs to a non-profit organization called Revival of Maritime Traditions and has been recognized by the US Treasury Department as affiliated with Putin.
