Putin’s speech – Today the decisions on the recognition of self-proclaimed democracies in Ukraine

THE Vladimir Putin will address a televised address to the Russian people today, February 21, the Russian news agency TASS reported tonight. Expected to announce decision on the recognition – or not – of the self-proclaimed democracies in Eastern Ukraineas it became known.

Earlier today, the leaders of the two regions, which have declared themselves “Donetsk People’s Republic” and “Luhansk People’s Republic”, addressed the President of Russia asking him to recognize them as independent.

Western sources insist the risk remains high

If Putin says “yes” and Russia makes such a move, it could pave the way for openly sending troops to both regions, according to international media analysts. Moscow in this case could use the argument that intervenes as an allyto protect them against Ukraine.

It is worth noting that Reuters recently spoke of the escalation of the threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, citing Western officials. According to these sources, the mobilization of troops at the border shows that relevant preparations are underway.
