Putin’s surprise visit to the general staff of the war in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin made a surprise visit last night to the General Staff of the Russian Army for the business in Ukraine in Rostov-on-Don (southern Russia), the Kremlin announced.

This is the second visit of the Russian head of state to Rostov in less than a month.

Putin “visited the general staff of the Russian Armed Forces in Rostov-on-Don after completing his official visit to Kazakhstan,” where he spent the entire day yesterday, Thursday, the Kremlin said in a statement.

During this visit, the Russian president was accompanied by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff and Commander of Military Operations in Ukraine Valery Gerasimov, according to the same source.

Putin was shown new military equipment and reports were made about the conduct of the military operation in Ukraine, the announcement added.

Vladimir Putin had already traveled to Rostov-on-Don in late October for talks with military officials about the Russian offensive.

Rostov-on-Don, located near Ukraine, has become an operational center for Russian forces to attack this former Soviet republic, Russia’s neighbor.

Putin had already visited the general staff in this city in August and March.
