Former Brazilian gymnast Daniele Hypolito shared a video on her Instagram explaining the reason for her last four hospitalizations, which have been happening since the beginning of 2023. Last Sunday (7), she interviewed her doctor, Júlio Ramos, who presented the condition former athlete clinician. She had an infectious condition after a urinary and sinus infection.
“I’m going to ask him some questions to clear up your doubts about my case. doctor Júlio, the first thing I wanted to ask is if this hospitalization and what I’m having has anything to do with the first hospitalization I had?”, she said.
“She had what we call pyelonephritis, which is a urinary tract infection, which is very common in everyday life. It’s not drinking water and not going to the bathroom, sometimes having to hold it causes a urinary tract infection. In everyday life, this bacteria will settle in the kidney. Then she developed pyelonephritis, which is treated with antibiotics and is still serious,” explained Júlio Ramos.
“She had sinusitis, we call it pansinusitis, which is a sinusitis with the secretion all closed on the face and the bacteria was there. This chronic sinusitis, when your own immunity drops, becomes more acute, that is, the bacteria begins to multiply and that was the case with Dani in relation to that”, continued the doctor.
Due to the bacteria and low immunity, Dani had a series of other symptoms and had to be admitted to the CTI for closer monitoring.
“She had a drop in blood pressure, she had a tachycardia, an acceleration, she started to feel unwell. She went to an intensive care unit so we could have more control. Because of the risk and severity,” he said.
The doctor said that it is common for people to neglect the symptoms and the condition gets worse.
“Sometimes the person feels pain in the frontal part and leaves it. And this chronic sinusitis develops. When our immunity drops, it takes advantage of it. The concern with pansinusitis is that it goes to the top, and you have meningitis. It was my concern about Dani.”
Daniele Hypolito took antibiotics in a vein for 15 days, but the condition continued with 60% of secretions in the sinuses, so the doctors opted for surgery, which has not yet occurred.
“We expected 20% to 30% nasal congestion, but there is no way we can release a patient with 65% secretion. We need to take another approach to clearing and helping the antibiotic penetrate. We try to avoid surgery as much as possible, however, I believe that this will be the solution to remove the secretion”, he added.
After the surgical procedure, Dani must remain in the hospital for up to 10 days, depending on how well she recovers.
“If there is a lot of secretion, a lot of glue, there is more post-operative time. We do not have an exact parameter because each patient responds in a different way. It will depend on the surgery itself,” explained Dr. Julio Ramos
