Q2 Flexible OLED Shipment Down 35% QoQ

About 57 million flexible OLED panels will ship in the second quarter of this year, down 35% from the previous quarter, according to research firm Omdia. The fall is due to the seasonal factor and a reduction in the supply of Apple iPhone smartphones. At the same time, compared to the same period last year, shipments of flexible OLED displays will increase by 54.1%.

Rigid OLED panels in the second quarter will ship about 53 million units. In other words, flexible panels are in high demand. They were first used in their flagship smartphones by Samsung and Huawei, and then other manufacturers, including Apple, followed suit. It should be clarified that the definition of “flexible” is assigned to panels that do not necessarily bend during operation, but which are based on a flexible substrate, which, in particular, allows such a screen to be given a non-planar shape.

The largest manufacturer of flexible OLED panels is Samsung Display, which will ship 39.1 million units this quarter. Omdia’s second place is LG Display, which will ship 10.6 million flexible OLED panels. BOE will ship 7.9 million panels, while CSOT, Visionox and Tianma will ship 3.1 million, 2.1 million and 1.4 million, respectively.
