Qualcomm Technologies has introduced a dedicated 5G modem for IoT devices. According to the manufacturer, the Qualcomm 315 is the first product of its type optimized for industrial IoT applications. It includes all the blocks needed to support 5G and 4G networks. Qualcomm 315 is expected to accelerate the adoption of 5G connectivity on the Internet of Things. Applications for the modem include equipment for numerous industries, including retail, energy, automation and manufacturing, agriculture, construction, mining, and more.
The modem supports 5G NR bands “up to 6 GHz” and works only in stand-alone mode (SA) with the ability to switch to LTE as needed. This solution is optimal for IoT applications that can be easily integrated with existing Ethernet and wired technologies. Its advantages include small size and power consumption.
The Qualcomm 315 modem is expected to go on sale in the second half of 2021.
