The mobile processor industry is about to change. Already this year, the American chip maker Qualcomm may concede the title of leader to its Taiwanese competitor MediaTek. At least, this is the opinion of analysts from the research firm Counterpoint Research.
The semiconductor industry is currently experiencing a serious crisis, but the shortage of microcircuits, according to analysts, will not prevent the growth of chipset shipments for mobile devices. True, this year’s growth will be very modest – only 3% compared to last year. Strong demand for processors will be possible thanks to the growth of the smartphone market and the development of 5G networks.
Most of the global mobile chipset market will be shared by two Qualcomm and MediaTek. Moreover, the latter will become the leader with a 37% share, and Qualcomm will get 30% of the market. But the American company will lead in the SoC segment with 5G support.
