Many companies that ship flagship mobile platforms with support for fifth generation networks claim download speeds in excess of 7 Gbps, these are peak values that are achieved in a laboratory environment.
Qualcomm, Telstra and Ericsson jointly announced today that they have successfully achieved a new 5Gbps download speed record on commercial 5G networks. This record was recorded using an unknown smartphone, which is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 5G modem. The test device also includes Qualcomm’s third-generation QTM535 millimeter-wave antenna module.
Measured at the Gold Coast 5G Innovation Center in Australia using the Streetmacro 6701, Ericsson Radio System’s integrated millimeter-wave base station.
Earlier in September 2020, Telstra’s 5G commercial network reached a maximum download speed of 4.2Gbps.
