Qualcomm will release special version of Snapdragon 888 for Huawei due to sanctions

With its sanctions, the United States has seriously complicated Huawei’s life and has done everything to restrict the Chinese giant’s access to modern technologies, especially 5G. A company, for example, can buy chips, but only those that do not support fifth-generation networks. Huawei has unexpectedly come to the rescue of the largest developer of wireless communications and single-chip systems Qualcomm, which, according to rumors, is preparing a special version of the Snapdragon 888 chipset without a 5G modem.

According to the well-known Chinese insider Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is close to releasing the Snapdragon 888 4G, which will be supplied by Huawei. Another insider added that it is intended for the Huawei P50 series of smartphones and will most likely be adapted to HarmonyOS. Along with this version of the chip, Qualcomm should also introduce a new platform.

There are reports that Qualcomm will also release 4G versions of the Snapdragon 888 Pro / Plus SoCs and the next-gen flagship SM8450 processor (presumably Snapdragon 895). Such chipsets will cost less, and this will allow companies to produce more affordable flagship devices in regions where the deployment of cellular networks of the fifth generation is not expected in the foreseeable future.

According to rumors, the Huawei P50 may debut on July 29th. The smartphone will be similar to the Honor 50, with a high refresh rate display and a Sony IMX707 main camera sensor with 5x optical zoom.

Huawei recently announced registration for the annual Apps UP 2021 technology innovation competition with a prize pool of $ 1 million. As such, the company is trying to encourage developers around the world to create more applications and services for its own HMS ecosystem.
