Quality of life: for the first time Udine is the province where people live best

For the first time Udine is at the top of the rankings Sun 24 Hours for quality of life in the Italian provinces. It had only been in the top ten three times since the first edition in 1990: in 2016, 2020 and 2021. On the podium in second and third place respectively Bologna, winner of the 2022 edition, and Trento, always in the top positions in recent years. What did Udine win for?

The province of Udine has climbed 11 positions in one year. It obtained first place overall, but also in the synthetic index of the Quality of Life of women and eighth place in the one that measures the Quality of Life of children. You have fourth place for justice and security, fifth for environment and culture and leisure. It has few families with ISEE under 7 thousand euros and failing businesses. Finally she has the record for gyms and swimming pools.

The podium

Bologna, second in general, but in the last position for safety, is always in the lead in the “Demography, health and society” category and has high levels of education, as well as third place for wealth and customs. Compared to last year it loses one position. It gains two, compared to 2022, Trent which has already won the 2023 Sportsmanship and Urban Ecosystem Index.

The top ten

In fourth place there is Aosta. Bergamo is in fifth place, gaining 9 positions, and has the record for «Environment and services». Followed by Florence and Modena. Position eight, unchanged, for Milan which is first in the «Business and work» category. In ninth place Monza and Brianza which gained 14 positions. It takes first place in the «Wealth and Consumption» category. Tenth is Verona.

The North and the Center

All the provinces in the Top Ten are in the Center or North and also most of those in the first half of the ranking. Parma is eleventh. Trieste and Bolzano dropped to 12th and 13th position respectively. However, there are 9 provinces of the Center and North in the last 40 positions. There are three more than in 2022. From sixty-eighth position downwards: Rovigo, Alessandria, Massa Carrara, Rieti, Grosseto, Viterbo, Frosinone, Imperia, Latina. Rome is 35th, Venice just before, Turin immediately after, Genoa 47th, losing 20 positions.

The South and the islands

Excluding Cagliari, which is in 23rd place, the South and the islands are in the second half of the ranking. Last is Foggia. Going up are Caltanissetta, Naples and Syracuse, then three Calabrian provinces: Crotone, Cosenza and Reggio Calabria. Completing the last ten are Brindisi, Trapani and Caserta. Vibo Valentia, Enna, Catanzaro, Salerno, Potenza and Isernia improve their position.
