Queen Elizabeth and the new tribute to the beloved Philip

Prince Philip is died last April at the age of 99. His wife, la Queen Elizabethmourning his loss, he admitted: “He was simply my strength“. Now that he is gone, the duke continues to be, at least in his heart, the support of His Majesty. The ninety-five-year-old sovereign also demonstrated it in public with a touching, silent voice homage to her late husband. In the first official engagement of 2022 – a meeting at Sandringham House with representatives of various charities – Elizabeth walked (not the first time, in recent months) helping himself with a stick. Not just any one, but the “Walking stick” favorite of the beloved Philip. The duke had last used it, in public, in 2013, after being hospitalized for abdominal surgery.

Elizabeth was leaning on that cane with its elegant curved handle in carved horn – a little too tall for her, but full of memories – even as it cut the special cake decorated with the emblem of his Platinum Jubilee. And the diamond brooches pinned on the powder blue dress just above the heart, they were another homage to her husband: they were in fact given to her on the occasion of the wedding with Philip. As he pointed out The TelegraphElizabeth, in these days so important to her – no British sovereign had ever crossed the line of seventy years on the throne – continues to seek support from Philip.

On the other hand, the duke has supported his wife since the first day of his reign, which began on February 6, 1952 when father George VI passed away, in his sleep, at the age of only 56. That day the then Princess Elizabeth and her husband were in Kenya. Cut off from communications, Lilibeth and her husband they learned of the death of the ruler belatedly. Philip was the first to be informed of her and it was he who told Elizabeth, after proposing a walk in the park. Mike Parker, the Prince’s assistant, observed the couple from afar: they paced back and forth and he talked to them, talked to them, talked to them …

Since then, Philip, always a step behind the queen, has never ceased to be her “strength”. Now he’s gone. But Elizabeth continues to lean on him, on his memory. That stick with its elegant curved handle in carved horn – a little too high for her, but steeped in memories – is yet another demonstration of a love that only death could break.
