Thousands of Britons wait patiently in mile-long queues that have formed at the Palace of Westminster to pay their respects to the 96-year-old Queen Elizabeth. Guards stand by the coffin which will remain there until the monarch’s funeral, which is scheduled for Monday 9/19 at 11:00 local time (13:00 Greek time).
However, the many hours of standing also create unexpected events, as in the case of a guard who collapsed on the ground in front of the shocked bystanders. The man seems to lose his footing, cannot keep his balance and falls from the podium, interrupting the vigil for a few minutes.
The government has warned citizens that the waiting time is increasing every day, in some cases it reaches 6 hours.
World leaders and royals are expected to go to the UK to pay their last respects to the Queen, including French President Emmanuel Macron.
“In a telephone conversation with His Majesty King Charles III, I expressed France’s condolences on the death of his mother, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On Monday I will be in London to attend the funeral. The bond between France and the United Kingdom is unbreakable. We will continue to weave it, following the path blazed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” he tweeted.
