Queen Elizabeth: New Zealand PM bids farewell to ‘amazing’ woman

As the end of a chapter in history characterized her death Queen Elizabeth the prime minister of new zealand Jacinda Ardernwhile the leaders of the Pacific countries are mourning for him death of the 96-year-old monarch.

After Elizabeth’s death last Thursday, her eldest son Charles became King of the United Kingdom and heads the 14 Commonwealth countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Papua New Guinea.

“Young or old, there is no doubt that a chapter is closing today and (…) we thank her incredible woman whom we were lucky enough to call our queenArdern said during a press conference. “She was amazing.”

In Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Elizabeth’s death was a loss his country felt deeply.

“The hearts of Australians go out to the people of the United Kingdom who are grieving today, knowing they feel they have lost something that made their nation complete,” Albanese said.

It is “a loss that we all feel, because few of us have known the world without Queen Elizabeth,” he added. “Her majesty was a rare and reassuring constant in our rapidly changing world” write down.

Leaders of other Pacific countries also expressed their condolences.

James Marape, its Prime Minister Papua New Guineastated that Elizabeth was known as “the Queen Mother because she was the matriarch of our country as much as she was of her family”.

The Queen has visited many countries in the Pacific during her 70 years on the throne of the United Kingdom.

“We were lucky to have the Queen visit us (…) and we recognize her incredible dedication to duty,” said acting Prime Minister Simon Coffey Tuvalu.

Flags in New Zealand and Australia are flown at half-mastwhile in Australia the work of the parliament was suspended.

Both countries, as reported by APE-MPE, are constitutional monarchies, with the Queen as head of state, although her role is mainly honorary.

However, both Australia and New Zealand have debated whether they should become presidential democracies, with a citizen as head of state. In 1999 a referendum on the issue was held in Australia, with the proposal narrowly rejected.
