Queen Elizabeth: Why Meghan Markle didn’t travel to Balmoral

THE Queen Elizabeth died on Thursday afternoon, plunging into mourning Britain and marking the end of an era for her country. Yesterday at noon, an announcement from Buckingham Palace that the queen is under observation and doctors were worried about her health, sounded the alarm to all members of the royal family. Charles – who will be proclaimed king today-, Prince William and Prince Harry rushed to Balmoral, Scotland, where the Queen was staying to be with her in her final moments. Nevertheless, Meghan Markle did not travel to Scotland but he remained in London even after the official announcement of Elizabeth’s death.

Despite an initial statement from the royal couple’s spokesman that they would travel to Scotland to be with the Queen, in the end only Harry traveled to Balmoral. Royal correspondent Omid Scobie tweeted that Meghan Markle remained in London. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were scheduled to attend the WellChild Awards but canceled their appearance following news of the Queen’s health.

Although the exact reason for Megan’s absence was not specified and would probably never be known if Meghan had gone to Scotland, it would be a rare reunion between her, Prince Harry, Prince William and Prince Charles under the most difficult of circumstances.

As noted by Ella, Meghan and Harry had a very good relationship with the Queen and even named their daughter Lillibet. Prince Harry told the Today Show in April that he and his grandmother “have a really special relationship. We talk about things he can’t talk about with anyone else.”

Meghan and Harry’s relationship with the rest of the royal family is a bit strained, especially after the revelations in their interview with Oprah in March 2021 about what they lived in the Palace.

It is noted that Kate Middleton did not travel to Balmoral either but stayed in Windsor to take care of her three children.
