Queen Elizabeth’s death: What’s next – Today Charles III is officially declared the new monarch

At Britain since yesterday (8/9), after it was announced the death of Queen Elizabeth, flags in all government buildings and public offices, as well as in palaces, fly at half-mast. The royal family’s website has changed its background to black.

Today (9/9), around 10:00, the new king of the country, the one until now Prince Charles, will be formally declared monarch of the United Kingdom by the Throne Council.

From now on he will be called King Charles III, while his wife Camilla Parker Bowles will bear the title of “royal consort”.

All Council men during the ceremony are required to wear a morning suit with black or dark ties.

The new king is then expected to address his first speech to the British people.

Parliament will meet later to pay tribute to the Queen and approve the message of condolence. Then his work will be suspended for 10 days.

At 15:30 the country’s prime minister Liz Truss and members of her cabinet will go to Buckingham Palace for an audience with the new king.

Tomorrow Saturday (10/9) the Queen’s body, according to one version, is expected to be transported by royal train from Balmoral to Buckingham Palace. However, other reports say it will be taken by road to the Palace of Holyrood in Edinburgh and the following day to the city’s cathedral, St Giles, where a service will be held in the presence of the king.

King Charles III will have already begun a tour of all the countries of the United Kingdom, as per protocol. His first stop will be Scotland, then he will go to Northern Ireland and then to Wales.

The day after tomorrow Sunday (11/9) the Queen’s body, according to the second scenario, will be transported by RAF (Air Force) aircraft to Northhold Military Airport in west London and from there by road to Buckingham Palace.

On Monday (12/9), on a bier, accompanied by a military procession and relatives, the body will be transferred from Buckingham Palace to Parliament where it will remain for a three-day public pilgrimage.

Ten days after her death, the queen’s funeral will be held. This day, on which national mourning will be declared, will be a public holiday.

According to information, the Queen’s body will be transferred at 10:50 from Parliament to Westminster Abbey where a grand state funeral will be held in the presence of foreign leaders.

Before the ceremony, two minutes of silence will be observed across the country.

Later, the body will be taken to Windsor Castle where a ceremony will take place at around 4pm at St George’s Chapel, where Prince Philip’s funeral was also held.
