The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, confirmed, this Monday (13), that the Ministry of Health system received a second cyber attack of lesser intensity.
“That first attack was not at the Ministry of Health. It was at the level of Embratel. And luckily the data wasn’t compromised. In relation to this one, it was something of a minor ‘mountain’, and we are working intensively here so that everything is re-established”, declared Queiroga.
The return of all features were scheduled for this Tuesday (14). However, after the new attack, according to Queiroga, there is no new deadline.
“I said until tomorrow, but you hear this other attack. Unfortunately, we are victims of these figures that have a criminal way of trying to invade, they can’t invade, but they riot and get in the way”, he continued.
first attack
Before the Ministry of Health website (www.saude.gov.br) went offline, on December 10, a message from the group that allegedly committed the crime was displayed.
The Lapsus$ Group, which claimed responsibility for the cyberattack, says 50 terabytes of information has been removed from the system and is in the group’s possession. “Contact us if you want data feedback”.
The attack took place around 1:00 in the morning. About two hours later, the message went offline and the site has been unavailable for access since.
The portal suffered a “ransomware”, attack characterized by a system shutdown followed by a ransom demand for release. Given the situation, stricken companies and agencies must make the difficult decision whether or not to pay hackers to remove the interruption.
According to investigations by the Federal Police (PF), there was compromise in the notification systems of Covid-19 cases, the National Immunization Program (PNI) and ConectSUS. However, the data was not encrypted.
