There are many questions about his tragic case of the 24-year-old Greek man, who was detained at the Wuppertal police station. In a statement, the Central European Sectoral Committee of the KKE also speaks of “serious suspicions of covering up the events that led to the death of the young man”.
In particular, as stated in the announcement, “the death of the 24-year-old Greek worker in a fast food chain, who was detained at the Wuppertal police station, raises many questions. German police are currently refusing to comment on the circumstances of the young Greek man’s death, denying the family the opportunity to see the child’s body, while it is still unknown whether an autopsy was performed or not. All this obstruction, of course, raises serious suspicions of covering up the events that led to the young man’s death.
At the same time, both the video that was released and the live testimonies at the time of his arrest prove the intensity of authoritarianism and state violence by the German police. Immigrants are regularly subjected to violent and racist treatment by the police authorities, as well as fascist gangs, while they are easily and quickly “wrapped in a piece of paper” accused of criminal and dangerous to public safety behavior. Those who protest, those who fight, those who claim and react to their policies, are considered “criminals”.
It is no coincidence, after all, that the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has recently been promoting a reactionary anti-assembly law. The policy of all bourgeois governments is that of strengthening repressive mechanisms, authoritarianism, dossier. Their goal is to intimidate, strike and the popular freedoms that are left to create submissive workers. They aim to reduce demonstrations and abolish the right to strike.
It is indicative that while the Greek authorities have been informed from the first moment about his death and while the publication of the video with the inhuman attitude of the police towards the Greek immigrant has taken place, five days later they have not even been placed. The Greek government has an obligation to immediately ask the German government for an explanation of the real causes and circumstances of his death and to condemn his brutal treatment. We demand that the circumstances of the young immigrant’s death be clarified immediately and that responsibilities be assigned where they exist.
On this serious issue, Costas Papadakis, MEP and member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece, made a telephone call to the Ambassador of Greece in Germany».
