Queue to access the queen’s coffin reaches 8 km; Waiting time exceeds 8 hours

The queue to access the location of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, at Westminster Hall, in London, reached almost eight kilometers long at around 4 pm this Thursday (15), by Brasília time (8 pm local time), surpassing the previous day. The estimated waiting time is over eight hours.

The coffin is on a raised platform, topped with the Royal Standard, which bears the Imperial State Crown, Orb and Scepter, and white flowers with foliage.

More than 1,000 helpers provide support and distribute water to those waiting to see the queen’s coffin.

On Wednesday, about 75,000 people were waiting to enter Westminster Hall. There are those who faced rain and slept on the sidewalk to ensure their position in the queue, which stretched for four kilometers.

The government estimates that around 750,000 people must enter to see the queen’s coffin.

The long-lived monarch, who died on September 8, receives tributes and farewells around the world, especially in her homeland.

The coffin with the queen’s body was taken in procession on Wednesday morning (14), from Buckingham Palace to the UK parliament, where it will be exposed to the public until Monday (19). Afterwards, the body will be transported to St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where the burial will take place.

Heads of state and other senior foreign dignitaries will be invited to gather at the Royal Hospital, a retirement home for ex-servicemen in west London, and “go in groups to Westminster Abbey” ahead of the funeral, a Palace official said. from Buckingham.
