Queue to access the wake of Queen Elizabeth II reaches 4 kilometers

The queue to access the funeral of queen elizabeth II in Westminster Hall this Wednesday (14) reaches 4 kilometers, calculates the real-time tracker of the UK . The coffin with the body will be exposed to the public until Monday (19).

According to the app, the end of the queue of people is currently near London Bridge.

Some Brits even braved rain and slept on the pavement overnight to secure their position in the queue, which can stretch ten miles to gain access to the oldest building in Parliament.

Officials said they could not accurately estimate how many would like to walk past the queen’s coffin, but estimate that as many as 750,000 people are expected to enter Westminster Hall as of Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking to the BBC on Wednesday, UK Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan said the government expects “extremely long lines, which can be as long as 30 hours”.

She added that “it won’t be thirty hours for everyone,” but pointed out that it was important for everyone to know how long it might take to get to the coffin.

Donelan said there will be more than 1,000 helpers a day, including Samaritans, the Red Cross and the Metropolitan Police, to assist those queuing for hours.

On Wednesday morning, the coffin was courted from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall – the UK parliament.

Several members of the royal family walked behind Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin along the way. Among them, the Queen’s three children: King Charles III, Prince Andrew and Princess Anne alongside her husband, Vice Admiral Tim Laurence, and son, Peter Phillips; the grandchildren: Prince William and Prince Harry; the Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Gloucester, and the Earl of Snowdon, son of the Queen’s late sister Princess Margaret.

The queen’s coffin was courted in a carriage, covered with the Royal Standard, which carried the Imperial State Crown on a velvet cushion, a wreath, white roses and a selection of foliage.

On September 19, the state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey. Afterwards, the coffin will go to St George’s Chapel, in Windsor Castle, where the burial will take place.
