Quicksink: The US’s new bomb costs little, is guided, and can cut a ship in half

The US Air Force used for the first time in a live-fire military exercise the new bomb, called the Quicksink, which is guided and can cut a warship in half while costing little compared to other similar weapons. The test took place during the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 exercise held off Hawaii, involving forces from Australia, Malaysia, the Netherlands and South Korea. During the exercise the decommissioned USS Dubuque (LPD 8) and USS Tarawa (LHA 1) were sunk, while the bomb was released by a US B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. The development of the weapon is being funded by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, with the goal of being able to hit surface ships with minimal cost and means.
