R. Svigou: The only dark force destabilizing the country is K. Mitsotakis

An attack on the government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was launched by the secretary of SYRIZA-PS, Rania Svigou saying: “The government is in a panic and Kyriakos Mitsotakis is a Prime Minister on the run. Today they went so far as to tell the Financial Times that there are dark forces that they are trying to destabilize the country, when in fact the only dark force destabilizing the country is Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself, who is the mastermind of the parastatal staff”.

He referred to what the new head of the EYP, Themistoklis Demiris, said during his hearing at the Parliament’s Institutions and Transparency Committee, saying: “what is confirmed is that not only were other persons, politicians and journalists also monitored, but at the same time they also confirm to us that the watch. This is an admission that no government in any country in the Western world can stand. And yet Kyriakos Mitsotakis continues as if nothing is happening.”

Commenting on the international press reports and the government’s reaction, he said that “in the face of an unprecedented democratic deviation in a European country, it was a foregone conclusion that this would be the attitude of the international media, even if it is not to the liking of those who are used to they are feeding the domestic media with government money. Apparently they cannot give money from the Petcha list to the New York Times, and precisely because this whole thing seems so foreign and unprecedented to them, they are resorting to an unprecedented effort to target the international media, but also journalists who are just trying to do their job like Mrs. Stamouli”.

Regarding the response of the permanent representative of Greece to the European Union to the Commission’s letter, three days before the resignations of Mr. Dimitriadis and Mr. Kontoleon, Rania Svigou argued: “it is not possible for an institutional representative of the government to respond, even a diplomat to tell a Commission representative that it is “unwise” to rely on certain media outlets and “stop dealing”.

Regarding the movements of SYRIZA-PS, he said that “we will use every parliamentary and political means we have so that nothing is left in the dark. And of course we are also committed to the implementation of a preliminary investigation committee by the next Parliament which will have a progressive majority, so that bring to justice those who participated in this unprecedented blow to the rule of law in our country.”

Finally, he argued that “the only answer in all this dark period for the Greek people and for the country is the elections, the appeal to the popular verdict. To pave the way for a progressive government which will set a new plan for the institutional restart of country, which will of course also concern the EYP, its democratic control, its removal from the prime minister’s office, the assignment of supervision and control to a cross-party parliamentary committee, but it will also concern democracy as a whole”.
