From left, Toiletpaper’s four creations for glo: Same And Different, Infinity Is The Limit, Fragile Is Strong and Freezing Fire.
The artistic project between glo and Toilet Paper describes itself very well with this phrase by Oscar Wilde: «We can only judge reality when it performs acrobatics». This idea of an acrobatic reality is a description of our times: for centuries we have pretended not to see indisputable realities, but now that the veil of time and appearances begins to lift we discover that the new reality was there even before, but we could not see her. And this time it won’t disappear by closing its eyes or pretending it doesn’t exist, because the time of binary choices is over. It is a historical achievement, an intellectual liberation. The works of the collection Radical Pop tell about this new acrobatic reality and arise from an explosive collaboration between ToiletPaperthe factory founded by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari and glo, increasingly committed to the front of artistic micromecenatism.
“Glo has for some time chosen to propose initiatives related to the world of art and design acting as a patron,” explained Roberta Palazzetti, president and CEO of Bat Italia and Area Director Southern Europe, during the press conference to present the project. “It is a necessary commitment, because we are living in a historical moment in which diversity is finally given voice and the need is felt to overcome rigid divisions also through art”.
In collection Radical-Pop fire comes to life from ice (Freezing Fire), the fragility of an egg supports the weight of the granite (Fragile Is Strong), makes the different equal (Same And Different) and points to infinity (Infinity Is the Limit). «Being pop does not mean conforming», added Pierpaolo Ferrari, co-founder of Toiletpaper, «but remaining in the world in a responsible way without giving up one’s identity. The terms radical and pop are themselves two opposing forces that meet to generate a new freedom ».
Until Sunday 20 Februaryon the occasion of the launch of the Radical-Pop collection, an exhibition dedicated to the Torneria in via Novi 5 in Milan will also be open to the public. Here the public will be able to experience an engaging experience, a journey through four rooms dedicated to the individual reference universes of the four Toiletpaper creatives and discover the background of the artists’ creative journey.
