RAE finding: At 600 million euros, the over-revenues of the energy companies

By Harry Floudopoulos

In the hands of the government is the finding of the Energy Regulatory Authority, which checked the profits of the country’s energy groups to determine whether there are the famous windfall profits in the midst of the energy crisis.

These are the revenues, according to the wording used by the Prime Minister last week, which according to the measures announced are expected to be taxed at a rate of 90% in order to be another source of funding for measures to alleviate households and companies from the energy crisis.

It is noted that the control of RAE concerns the entire duration of the energy crisis, ie from last October 2021 until March 2022, a period during which a significant increase in the stock market prices of natural gas was recorded, which resulted in electricity prices continue to soar.

According to information, RAE determines the gross profit margin of electricity generators at 930 million euros, of which 730 million related to PPC, 157 million to private electricity companies and 40 million to RES producers that participate freely in the market without aid. . From the total amount, the discount policy of PPC is deducted (over 300 million euros), ie the total amount of the over-revenues is set at 600 million euros.

The Minister of State Akis Skertsos in his statements on Sky radio, confirmed that the government has in its hands the RAE report on the overpayments of the energy companies, which will be analyzed in order to return to its conclusions.

According to the Minister of State, the government will proceed with the regulation of the excessive charges from December to May with the compensation of the households which can reach up to 600 euros and at the same time will examine what has happened with the so-called surpluses of energy producers. . “We are talking about overpayments because we have to take into account that there have been significant discounts from producers and suppliers, there have also been losses from the fixed tariffs that were formed before the crisis. With full respect for RAE’s findings we will impose an extraordinary fee “In essence, a solidarity dividend of energy producers. In this difficult situation, they must also put their hand in their pocket,” said Mr. Skertsos.

Finally, it is noted that the measure of the taxation of extraordinary profits is included in the measures of the toolbox of the Commission for dealing with the energy crisis.
