Rage and shock in Turkey: He killed with a sword a 28-year-old samurai who was walking on the street

Shock and rage is caused by the murder of a woman in Turkey, who was killed by a man in the middle of the street with a samurai sword, while she was walking on a street in Istanbul. The 28-year-old Başak Cengiz was attacked by Can Göktuğ Boz “out of nowhere”, as the Turkish Hurryiet notes in its article.

The horrific incident took place in the Ataşehir district of Istanbul on the night of November 9th. The suspect fled the scene with one sword 75 cm, while Cengiz – who was left seriously injured after the savage attack – was taken to hospital, where she ended up with her injuries despite the efforts of doctors.

Police arrested Boz, a 27-year-old student, as soon as they were able to identify him from security cameras, and the murder investigation was launched.

He had decided to kill a woman if a man resisted

Police sources quoted by the Turkish media say that Boz explained in detail the murder he had committed with “great composure” in his three-page testimony. He also confessed that he had decided to kill one woman while he was leaving his house in case a man would resist him.

Boz was arrested on November 10 and charged with felony criminal mischief. It was preceded by a police raid on his home, where 15 different cutting tools were found, including a samurai sword.

Papers believed to contain his “manifesto” were also found at the residence of the student, who allegedly lived alone.

Speaking to Demirören, his neighbors claimed that the suspect had behaved unusually and had recently threatened a child by pointing a sword at him.

The suspect had previously been hospitalized for 17 days for drug use and had been receiving psychological support for five years. For the last three years, however, he had not consulted a doctor.

The 28-year-old architect would return home the next day

Meanwhile, information about the unfortunate woman states that she lived in Ankara and had gone to Istanbul for a temporary job as an architect in a construction company. The day after her brutal murder he had planned to return home.

The wild murder has angered her in Turkey. At least 309 women have been killed in 2021 in the country, according to the We Will Stop Femicides platform (Kadın Cinayetlerini Durduracağız Platform).
