A cold front moving across the country is expected to cause intense rain, strong winds and the risk of flooding in several Brazilian states throughout the weekend. The forecast is from Maria Clara Sassaki, spokesperson for Tempo OK.
The cold front that left the South, Southeast and Central-West of Brazil on alert this Friday (8), advances towards the south of Bahia during the weekend and, as the system moves, the rain loses intensity in the center-south and increases in the center-north of the country.
Between Saturday (9) and Sunday (10), a humidity corridor forms at the height of EspÃrito Santo and organizes rain clouds in the interior of Minas Gerais, in Goiás, in the north of Mato Grosso, in the interior of Bahia, in Tocantins, and in the states of the North region.
In the southern states, in São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul, the presence of a drier air mass reduces the possibility of rain and leaves temperatures mild, with maximums around 22°C in most municipalities.
In Rio de Janeiro, EspÃrito Santo, the Federal District, Goiás, Mato Grosso, western Bahia and southern Tocantins, the maximum temperature is lower due to excess cloudiness and constant rain.
The forecast indicates the risk of flooding, landslides and river overflows in Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, EspÃrito Santo and southern Bahia.
Wind gusts of up to 70 km/h are expected in coastal areas between the north of Rio de Janeiro and the south of Bahia.
A sea hangover is also expected, with waves of up to 3 meters, from Rio Grande do Sul to EspÃrito Santo.
Projections for next week
The forecast for next week indicates the continuation of areas of instability, with moderate intensity rain in much of the Southeast, Central-West and North.
In the center-south of the country, rains are expected to be more sparse and temperatures will remain low, with the possibility of frost in some regions.
