Rain and gale damages cities in Rio Grande do Sul

A storm caused damage in cities of Rio Grande do Sul on Monday night (15). The storm hit the Porto Alegre metropolitan region with wind and hail, according to meteorology company MetSul.

In the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, teams from the Civil Defense of the municipality, the Military Brigade and the Fire Department are working in the search for a 45-year-old man who disappeared near Rua da Represa.

According to the Civil Defense, in 12 hours it rained 23.6 millimeters. By 9:30 pm on Monday, five incidents had been reported. On social media, the mayor of Porto Alegre, Sebastião Melo (MDB-RS), asked the population to stay at home or in safe shelters.

According to Gravataí City Hall, the storm toppled Casa do Bem – a place that shelters homeless people at night. The users of the service were relocated to the Centro de Tradições Gaúchas Carreteiros da Saudade. In the center of the city, the image in honor of Nossa Senhora dos Anjos fell to the ground with the gale.

At the Canoas air base, the wind gusts reached 120 km/h. The Nossa Senhora das Graças Hospital had its structure damaged. Homes and commercial establishments were also affected by the rain.
