Residents of various regions of Rio Grande do Sul registered heavy rains during the night of Thursday (8) and the dawn of this Friday (9) amid the red alert issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) for severe storms.

According to information from the NOTTUS meteorology agency, the largest precipitation accumulated during the rains reached the following volumes:
- South Waterfall – RS: 224.4 mm
- Faxinal do Soturno – RS: 188.8 mm
- Alegrete – RS: 181 mm
- South Crossroads – RS: 175.8 mm
On the morning of Friday (9), between the municipalities of Paraíso do Sul and Novo Cabrais, the RSC-287 State Highway has two affected stretches.
At km 167, the highway is fully blocked due to the overflow of the belly stream. Already in the streak cut, the water covers the track, but the traffic is still released with caution.
The situation led the City of Paraíso do Sul to cancel classes in all schools of the municipal network this Friday (9). The measure aims to ensure the safety of students, teachers, servants and the community in general, in the face of damage to roads and access.

For the next few hours, according to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), the combination of a hot and humid air mass with the approaching new cold front will further intensify instability in Rio Grande do Sul. The forecast is of significant volumes of short time, accompanied by a high possibility of hail fall.
The campaign region and surrounding municipalities remain the most risk areas, with accumulated rainfall between 60 mm and 100 mm, and may exceed 100 mm at some points. Wind gusts greater than 100 km/h are also expected in these areas.
Other regions of the state, including the Center, West, Northwest, Southeast and the Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region, follow under a storm warning, although with less degree of severity (orange warning).
The Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense reinforces the warning for even more expressive rainfall in the western part of the state, and may reach 300 mm, and between 100 mm and 200 mm in other regions, with risk of microexplosions and made due to the intensity of the storms.
Climatempo adds, informing that this Friday (9) is maximum warning for bulky rain throughout the state, with accumulated that can exceed 100 mm by the end of the day, significantly raising the risk of flooding in Greater Porto Alegre.
