As expected by the forecast, last weekend and this Monday (8) were marked by heavy rains in Salvador. According to the Civil Defense of Salvador (Codesal), only in the first seven days of April, the second rainiest month in the capital of Bahia, were recorded in some neighborhoods, significant accumulations higher than the historical average for the entire month, of 284, 9mm, which ends up causing inconvenience and damage to the population.
This morning, a landslide in the Barris neighborhood, in the center of Salvador, left one person injured. According to Codesal, the garage of a building gave way and some vehicles ended up falling. The structure, which has four floors, is higher than the Salvador Traffic Superintendency unit, and the agency had to suspend service, as the area was completely evacuated and isolated.
Following the Civil Defense Prevention Plan (PPDC) protocol, Codesal activated, early this afternoon, the 14 Alert and Alarm System sirens installed in 14 priority risk areas in Salvador. When this happens, residents of these communities have to leave their homes and are taken to a reception unit located in schools in the municipality, where they are sheltered until the risk ceases.
The agency had already issued a maximum alert, this Sunday (7), due to the accumulated rainfall of more than 150 millimeters in the last 72 hours in the capital of Bahia.
Between landslides, flooded properties, falling trees and other incidents, the agency has already received more than 260 emergency requests. The streets were also completely flooded in several parts of the capital.
Also due to the rough seas and adverse navigation conditions in Baía de Todos os Santos, the Salvador/Mar Grande crossing has been suspended since Sunday, as well as tourist schooners, on the recommendation of the Bahia Port Authority. The Association of Maritime Transporters of Bahia (Astramab) informs that there is still no forecast for the resumption of operations and that any update will be published in a new bulletin.
The forecast is that the rains will continue, which requires attention from the population.
