Rain is expected to continue in the Southeast in the coming days

The Southeast region of Brazil will continue to be on alert due to the rainy season that hits the area. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), in most of the Southeast Region there will be a decrease in the volume and intensity of rain.

However, isolated rain showers are still forecast in areas of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, but they could be locally strong in the northwest of São Paulo, the Minas Gerais triangle, Rio de Janeiro and southern Espírito Santo. In other areas, rain with smaller accumulations cannot be ruled out.

Inmet pointed out that this Tuesday (26) there will be a chance of rain at any time of the day throughout the Rio de Janeiro region. The highest accumulated volumes will be expected in the mountains and in the north of the state.

In the capital the condition is the same, but the rain should be a little less intense, as well as in the lake region, on the coast and in the middle of Paraíba.

In São Paulo, a second cold front will pass more quickly, in addition to an increase in rain conditions, starting this Tuesday. Greater São Paulo will have a week with more cloudiness, a chance of light to moderate rain several times over the next few days and with maximum temperatures around 24/25 °C.

Municipalities on the north coast of the state will also have a week to pay attention to this rain condition, which may be persistent. Only on the south coast and extreme south of the state will the showers be more isolated. In the center-north, they will be more concentrated. Part of the interior should have sun and heat.

In an interview with CNN this Monday (25), Armin Braun, director of the National Center for Risk and Disaster Management (CENAD), stated that in Espírito Santo it rained three times as much as expected last weekend.

The national Civil Defense is still monitoring the situation there and in Rio de Janeiro. “At this time, any rain warning is very important because the ground is very wet, the rivers are full and the cities have been very affected,” explained Braun.

Disorders

Some areas of the Southeast were seriously affected by storms last weekend. In Espírito Santo (ES), at least 19 people died due to the rains, while six others remain missing. In Rio de Janeiro, eight deaths were recorded.

In Petrópolis (RJ), from 3pm last Friday (22nd) until 3pm this Monday (25th), it rained 320.2mm, according to the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts (CEMADEN). This number exceeded the average of how much rain it usually rains in the entire month in the city.
