Caixa Econômica Federal released the withdrawal of the Guarantee Fund for Time of Service for victims of the extratropical cyclone, in southern Bahia and northern Minas Gerais. According to the president of CEF, Pedro Guimarães, the bank is prepared to make the payment.
“There needs to be a request from the Ministry and city halls indicating the neighborhoods (affected). By doing this, we pay within 5 days using lotteries, agencies and apps,” he explained. The amount paid will be from the FGTS balance up to the limit of R$ 6,220.
In addition, there are lines of credit available to states and municipalities. “Last year we lent to more than 650 municipalities, so there is a possibility, we are already analyzing the financial situation of the municipalities”, revealed Guimarães.
The announcement was made alongside President Jair Bolsonaro, after the graduation ceremony of 197 Navy aspirants, in Rio de Janeiro.
“We had approximately 48 hours ago basically a catastrophe in the south of Bahia and in the north of Minas, around 55 municipalities were affected, there are unfortunately deaths, destruction of road works, homes”, lamented Bolsonaro, who informed that the federal government is ready to collaborate, but that, for this, it needs to be “provoked” by the governors or mayors.
“Rogério Marinho has already guided their mayors and practically all the municipalities have declared a state of calamity, by decree that has already reached the Ministry of Regional Development and Rogerio Marinho has already published the recognition in the Official Gazette of the Union”.
An extratropical cyclone formed off the southern coast of Brazil helped trigger intense storms. The federal government recognized an emergency situation in 31 cities in Minas Gerais and 17 municipalities in Bahia. Bolsonaro also said that he was not contacted by the governor of Bahia, Rui Costa.
According to Defense Minister Walter Braga Netto, “recognitions are being made, but each ministry has its role. They are already in a position to support, our helicopters are pre-selected in case there is a need. And the troops are already preparing the reconnaissance”.
