Rain weakens, but RJ is still on alert this Sunday (6)

The state of Rio de Janeiro is still under attention on Sunday (6) due to the consequences of intense rains that have hit the region since last Friday (4). Despite a truce at some points, the risk of landslides and flooding remains considerable in several cities, according to the Civil Defense.

According to a bulletin released on Sunday (6) by the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts of Natural Disasters (CEMADEN) 53 cities of the state are on maximum warning for occurrences related to storms, such as floods and landslides. The municipalities are in Grande Rio, the Serrana region and Costa Verde.

Monitoring of the rainfall reveals a risk scenario in several cities of the state. Duque de Caxias presents high -risk of flooding, while Angra, Mangaratiba, Nova Iguaçu, São João de Meriti, Belford Purple, Magé, Petrópolis, Nova Friburgo and Teresópolis are in high -risk for flooding.

As for landslides, the Risk is very high in Angra and Petrópolis, and high In Duque de Caxias, Mangaratiba, Teresópolis and Rio de Janeiro.

In Angra dos Reis City Hall maintains continuous effort to assist affected residents. Municipal teams devoted the day to cleaning and clearing roads and streams, as well as providing essential support to families. The municipality organized 4 shelters and 33 support points, which currently welcome 382 people and 40 pets .

Despite an improvement in the last 24 hours, with 45 mm of precipitation, Angra dos Reis remains at maximum warning, considering the accumulated 390 mm in the last 72 hours. This significant volume still represents a high danger of slope landslides.

THE Petrópolis Region which recorded a large volume of rain on Saturday (5), presents this Sunday a more stable picture, with cloudy sky and forecast of weak to moderate rain throughout the day. However, Petrópolis City Hall issued a valid alert until 8 pm today, informing about the approach of a cold front and moderate to strong rain nuclei from the green coast.

The rains also caused reflexes on several state highways. In RJ-127 (Serra de Paracambi), the stop and follows system remains suspended. At RJ-155, at km 19, in Lidice (Rio Claro), the asphalt partially gave way, and traffic flows in half track. In Magé, on RJ-107, a landslide also restricts traffic at halfway.

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) reported that the BR-116, at km 93 in Teresópolis, is fully banned. On BR-040, at km 87 in Petrópolis, there is partial interdiction towards Rio de Janeiro.

Since last Friday (4), the Rio de Janeiro State Military Fire Department has served 472 rain-related occurrences, including 268 fallen trees, 130 animal rescues, 33 floods and 18 landslides, assisting 79 victims without serious injuries.

In Capital the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, reported that the situation is more controlled, although there are still pending issues such as the removal of fallen trees. The forecast for today indicates weak rain to moderate isolated, expecting to improve from the afternoon tomorrow.

Paes recommended to the cariocas that, if possible, stay at home, but reassured those who want to leave, ensuring that the city is calmer.

The city of Rio reported that its teams worked incessantly to optimize the flow of water and unobstruct roads blocked by tree falls. The Rio Operations Center continues to monitor the situation. In the capital, until 14h this Sunday, were registered volumes of weak rainfall in some weather stations.

The Brazilian Navy extended the hangover alert on the edge of Rio de Janeiro until 9am next Monday (7), scheduled for waves up to 3 meters high. By precaution, the Niemeyer Avenue bike path (previously known as Lima Maia) remains banned.
