In four days, cities in the state of Alagoas reached the average rainfall forecast for the entire month of July, with more than 300 millimeters of precipitation. The result of heavy rain is seen in floods, river overflows, landslides, among other damages.

In the state, there are more than 50 municipalities in an emergency situation, and the floods also affect the capital Maceió.

The rains should not stop for some time: according to the website Climatempo, it can rain at any time of the day in Maceió, at least until Saturday (9). According to website meteorologist Maria Clara Sassaki, in an interview with CNN the rains may continue until August.

“For the next 30 days it should fluctuate between strong and weak on the northeast coast, from the Bahian Recôncavo to Rio Grande do Norte,” he said.

The rains with greater intensity are a consequence of the meteorological phenomenon known as “East Waves”, which are changes in the wind and pressure field that act in the tropical belt of the terrestrial globe, generating very heavy clouds on the northeast east coast.

The Federal Government recognized this Monday, through publication in the Official Gazette (DOU), in an ordinance National Secretariat for Civil Defense and Protection, linked to the Ministry of Regional Development, the emergency situation in 15 cities in Alagoas, Amazonas. , Bahia, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte and Santa Catarina.
