Almost 2/3 of Rio Grande do Sul's cities were affected by devastating storms that occurred throughout the week, according to a report released this Saturday (4) by Civil Defense. Of 497 municipalities, 300 were affected.
Civil Defense reports 57 deaths as a result of the storms. The number exceeds the 54 deaths recorded in September last year, during the passage of an extratropical cyclone.
At least 67 people remain missing and another 74 are injured. The Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense reports that 32,640 people are homeless. 9,581 are temporarily in shelters.
In this Saturday, Lake Guaíba reached an impressive 5.10 meters , far surpassing the historical record of 1941, which was 4.76 meters. The capital, Porto Alegre, is on alert. The Historic Center was greatly affected.
