Rains in RS: Caxias do Sul issues warning for risk of dam collapse

The Autonomous Municipal Water and Sewage Service (Samae) issued an alert this Thursday (2) regarding the risk of rupture of the Dal Bó Dam, located in Caxias do Sul (RS).

According to Samae, the dam gate is 100% open. Houses in front of the structure may suffer from flooding at any time. Therefore, the concessionaire, together with the city of Caxias do Sul, requests the evacuation of the area as soon as possible.

In a statement published on social media, the basic sanitation service, through a spokesperson, assures the population that the situation at the dam is currently critical. According to the statement, the dam level is close to the limit, with around 10 to 15 cm remaining before reaching the maximum level and the water overflowing.

According to Samae, the Fire Department, Civil Defense, Housing Department, Municipal Guard and other security bodies are already working in the region, alerting families and assisting in evacuation. Engineers are also present in the municipality and assess, at all times, the possibility of the dam breaking due to the heavy rains that affect Rio Grande do Sul.
