The National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts (Cemaden) warned that the Paranhana River and its tributaries are at a very high hydrological risk, near the city of Igrejinha, with the possibility of gradual flooding. The alert was issued on Saturday night (11).
Cemaden reports that, in a 24-hour period, the accumulated rainfall is 64 mm in the municipality. The document also says that the action of areas of instability in the region can cause the overflow of urban channels in Igrejinha and flooding in low-lying areas.
In the update of the document this Sunday morning (12), the weather forecast indicates that rain is expected to continue in the region throughout the day.
The mayor of Igrejinha, Leandro Horlle, said that the river is at a higher volume compared to the early hours of this Saturday (11). “Everyone needs to be careful at this time”, warns Horlle about the risk of flooding.
