Rains in RS: companies cancel flights to Porto Alegre until Friday (10)

The main airlines operating in Brazil have suspended their flights to and from Porto Alegre (RS) until next Friday (10). Operations at Salgado Filho airport, in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, are suspended indefinitely due to the heavy rains hitting the state.

Fraport Brasil, responsible for operations in Salgado Filho, said it remains in contact with Civil Defense, authorities and airlines to monitor and assess the situation.

The concessionaire informs that the passenger terminal has been closed and only the teams necessary for security and maintenance will remain on site.

In a statement, the company added that passengers who were still at the airport were taken to hotels and shelters in the city.

Latam

Latam stated that all its flights to and from Porto Alegre are canceled until 11:59 pm on Friday (10), with the possibility of postponement. The company's operations in Caxias do Sul and Passo Fundo remain normal, but with the possibility of impacts due to the rains in the region.

The company advises its passengers who avoid traveling to Salgado Filho airport and check the status of their flights to and from Caxias do Sul and Passo Fundo in advance.

The company says it is offering commercial flexibility for those who have flights until next Sunday (12) to and from the locations without fines or fare differences and with the possibility of refunds. Customers who want to make this type of change must make the request via the company's website.

Gol informed that it also canceled all its flights departing or arriving in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul until 11:30 pm on Friday (10) and will continue without operations in the location.

The company said that from Wednesday (1st) until May 31st, customers who wish to reschedule their flights arriving or departing from Rio Grande do Sul airports will be able to do so, with the possibility of leaving the ticket price in credit with the company and without the need to pay a cancellation fee.

In addition to Rio Grande do Sul, these conditions cover Chapecó airport, in Santa Catarina. In addition, the company stated that there will be an exemption from the rebooking fee for the company's flights.

In the case of Azul, the suspension of landings and takeoffs from Porto Alegre lasts until 11:59 pm on Thursday (9).

The company suggested that customers with flights scheduled during this period pay attention to communications that will be sent via email, SMS and WhatsApp, as well as being available via the website and app.

Other passengers who choose to change their ticket voluntarily will be able to make the request up to three days after the date of travel, depending on availability. It is also possible to request cancellation of the ticket through official service channels, leaving the amount in credit with the company.
