The number of people killed as a result of the heavy rains that have hit Rio Grande do Sul since the end of April has risen to 171.
According to a report released by the state Civil Defense this Saturday morning (1), 43 people are also still missing.
In addition to the fatal victims, 806 people were injured. Another 77,865 were rescued.
According to information from the bulletin, there are 580,111 homeless people and 37,812 people in shelters. There are 2,390,556 people affected and 475 out of a total of 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul.
Also this Saturday, Lake Guaíba, which reached a historic peak of 5.35 meters on May 5, was below the flood level for the first time in a month. This morning, the lake reached 3.57 meters, three centimeters below the level.
Despite the low, Rio Grande do Sul remains on alert. The lake level is still considered high and many parts of the cities of Rio Grande do Sul remain flooded, such as in Pelotas, where water from the Guaíba reached Lagoa dos Patos.
