The number of people killed as a result of the heavy rains that have hit Rio Grande do Sul since last week has risen to 85, according to a report released by Civil Defense in the early afternoon of this Monday (6). The state also reports 339 injured and 134 missing.
In addition to the deaths that have already been proven to be related to the storms, the Rio Grande do Sul government is investigating another 4 deaths. The objective is to verify whether these people died as a result of the rain or not.
In total, 385 municipalities were affected by climate events. More than a million people were affected across the state. Of these, 153,824 are homeless and 47,676 are in temporary shelters.
According to a state government report, at least 750,000 customers of Companhia Riograndense de Saneamento (Corsan) are without water supply. This corresponds to 26% of total customers.
There are still around 270 thousand RGE Sul customers without electricity, which is equivalent to 8.8% of the total.
The rains that have hit the state since last week have affected 789 schools in 216 municipalities. More than 273.1 thousand students were impacted.

New red alert
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued this Monday (6) a new red alert – of great danger – for storms in the southeast region of Rio Grande do Sul.
The alert is valid until noon next Tuesday (7). According to Inmet, the forecast is for rainfall of more than 100 millimeters per day, in addition to winds of more than 100 km/h and hail. There is “great risk of damage to buildings, electricity cuts, damage to plantations, falling trees, flooding and disruption to road transport”.
