Rains in RS: death toll rises to 90; more than 1 million were affected

The balance released by the government of Rio Grande do Sul this Tuesday morning (07) shows that the number of deaths due to the heavy rains that hit the state since the beginning of last week rose to 90. In addition, four deaths are under investigation. In total, 132 people are missing and 361 are injured.

According to the numbers, 1,367,506 people were affected in 388 municipalities. There are already 155,741 homeless and 48,147 in shelters.

Level of the Guaíba River:

The Guaíba River, which reached its historic maximum flood level amid the rains affecting Rio Grande do Sul, remains at critical levels and is expected to remain above the flood level – which is 3 meters – until next week, according to analyzes by the Geological Survey of Brazil (SGB).

The river cuts through the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, and the flood also impacts municipalities in the Metropolitan Region, which are among those most affected by the storms.

Since the start of the heavy rains, on Monday (29), Guaíba has risen more than three meters and, on Saturday (5), it reached an all-time high of 5.33 m, 58 cm above the previous record, of 4. 75 m, registered in 1941.
