During a broadcast on a social network, governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) highlighted the dramatic situation in the city, which is part of the Porto Alegre metropolitan region, and reported that the hospital's generators had collapsed.
The city hall says that the priority at the Canoas Emergency Hospital is to save lives and transfer all patients safely. In case of medical emergencies, the municipal administration advises that the population should seek, exclusively, the Nossa Senhora das Graças Hospital, “Gracinha”.
Last Friday (3), the Rio Branco Emergency Care Unit (UPA) had to be closed due to the lack of electricity and the increase in water levels in the region.
Four patients, none in serious condition, were transferred to UPA Boqueirão, in the Guajuviras neighborhood.
The situation in Canoas, as in the entire metropolitan region, has been severely damaged by storms. Over the past few days, the city hall has issued several alerts, requests for voluntary help and announced new reception locations, such as schools and social centers.
