Rains in RS: number of affected municipalities rises to 147

A balance released by the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul in the early afternoon of this Thursday (2) reveals that the number of municipalities affected by the heavy rains that have hit the state since the beginning of the week rose to 147. In the previous report, there were 139 cities.

Storms in the state left 13 people dead, 12 injured and 21 missing.

In total, 67,860 people were affected by the storms. Around 9,993 are homeless and 4,599 have gone to shelters.

* In the previous bulletin, released at 9am, a death was recorded as having occurred in Santa Maria, but, in fact, it occurred in Silveira Martins.

Among the 21 disappearances, eight were in Candelária, six in Encantado, four in Roca Sales, two in São Vendelino and one in Passa Sete.

Until 9 am today, the city of Soledade (RS) had recorded an accumulated volume of 246.2 millimeters of rain in 24 hours. The other municipalities that recorded the highest accumulations were Ibirubá (192.6 mm), Bento Gonçalves (184 mm), Serafina Corrêa (175.4 mm), Santa Rosa (171.6 mm) and Cruz Alta (153.2 mm) . The data are from the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

This Thursday, Inmet issued another warning of great danger for accumulated rain for the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, in addition to the northwest and northeast of Rio Grande do Sul and a large part of Santa Catarina. According to the agency, there is “a great risk of major flooding and river overflows, major landslides”.
