Rains in RS: “our mission is search, rescue and rescue”, says Fire Colonel

Colonel Miranda, from the Amapá Military Fire Brigade, is working in Canoas (RS) to assist in rescue and rescue operations after the strong floods that hit the region.

Since Tuesday, the colonel and his team arrived from Macapá to help his fellow Gauchos. “Our mission is search, rescue and rescue, given the adverse conditions here, lots of water, few boats,” he said.

The integrated work between local forces and teams arriving from other states is being coordinated coherently. “We are trying to achieve the best coordination possible”, explained the colonel. “If you see, it is distributed throughout the state, so we try to make the best possible way to have a coherent distribution of people, of specialists in this area of ​​search, rescue and rescue.”

Flood challenges

According to Miranda, the current phase is the response, with the rescue of people and animals. “Many people, animals and pets have already been rescued, and now that it is receding, bodies are starting to appear, it is the worst part, it is the body rescue phase and when the water goes down, the reconstruction, which is the most difficult and the most costly and most painful.”

In addition to the adverse flood conditions, professionals also face climate challenges. “There are health challenges, because we, for example, faced very hot days here in Rio Grande do Sul in the last few days, but there is the expectation, and we are feeling it now in our skin, that the temperature will also decrease in the coming months. days”, reported the colonel.

Despite the difficulties, the mission continues until the end. “We have to overcome all these challenges. This is the mission and we will have to go to the end trying to do it in the best possible way”, concluded Miranda.
