Rains in RS: PRF creates alternative routes to guarantee transport of supplies

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) in Rio Grande do Sul is facing a challenging situation after the heavy rains that hit the state, leaving several highways blocked. During an interview with CNN this Wednesday (8), the Social Communication representative of PRF-RS, Douglas Paveck Bonfim, commented on the ongoing efforts and said that alternative routes are being created to allow the traffic of trucks with essential supplies.

According to him, the corporation is committed to ensuring that food and donation distribution channels remain active in the affected region.

The PRF's main focus, according to Bonfim, is the rescue of thousands of people who are still at risk due to the floods. Four helicopters and boat teams are working to rescue these victims.

Combating false information

Bonfim lamented the circulation of false information on social media during this critical moment. According to him, while some people bring out the best side of humanity, others take advantage of the situation to spread misinformation.

“It is with great sadness and indignation that we see this type of information circulating on social media,” said the PRF representative.

Maintained public safety

Despite the focus on rescue and logistics efforts, the PRF cannot neglect public safety. Bonfim explained that the corporation is reinforcing policing in the metropolitan region, including using discreet vehicles to guarantee the protection of the population.

“We cannot take our eyes off public safety at this time of unprecedented climate catastrophe in Rio Grande do Sul,” he highlighted.

Bonfim also clarified that there are no specific operations to monitor donations or collect recreational vessels, as rumors suggested. The time, according to him, is to save lives and provide assistance to the affected population.
