A rescue attempt made by the Military Brigade of Rio Grande do Sul (BMRS) ended with a person being carried away by the flood, on the afternoon of this Thursday (2), in Cruzeiro do Sul, in Vale do Taquari, central region of Rio Grande southern.
A BMRS helicopter was sent to rescue two people who were stranded on the roof of a residence. According to the agents, the crew member responsible for the rescue descended hanging from a rope and rescued one of the victims.
While the agent went down again to rescue the other person, the structure of the house could not withstand the strong current and collapsed. The images went viral on social media. See the video below .
The agent carrying out the rescue, as he was hoisted onto the corporation's aircraft, survived the force of the waters. The second person was swept away by the current.
“The Military Brigade deeply regrets what happened and reaffirms its tireless effort in rescue, assistance and humanitarian actions towards families affected by yet another climate catastrophe”, lamented the BMRS.

The government of Rio Grande do Sul warned of the “worst moment” due to the heavy rains hitting the state. According to the government of Rio Grande do Sul, the situation in the Vale do Taquari region is critical due to the flooding of the Taquari River.
Rio reached the 30 meter flood mark for the first time in its history. The number was recorded in the cities of Lajeado and Estrela, which are located in Vale do Taquari, in Rio Grande do Sul.
The region has been hit for days by strong and persistent rain that floods cities, destroys houses and bridges and has already left at least four people dead. Across the state, 31 people have died due to the rains, and 74 people are still missing.
