The body of a young man who was buried in a large landslide, was found after 48 hours in Salvador, Bahia, this Friday morning (29).
According to firefighters, the corpse of Paulo Andrade, aged 18 was located around 8:15 am, in the bathroom of the house where he lived, in Saramandaia, a neighborhood located in the capital of Bahia.
He was reported missing after heavy rains hit the city this Wednesday (27). There were two days of searching for the young man.
The corporation states that, during the early hours of this Friday, around 100 people, including firefighters and volunteers were mobilized to dig up a larger part of the property, in an attempt to find the boy. Sniffer dogs also helped in the searches.
This Wednesday (27), Paulo’s neighbor, mother and younger brother were rescued alive in the same location. The corporation claims that two landslides occurred in the region.
The landslide in Saramandaia resulted in four victims, involving the boy and three other people. In a nearby neighborhood, in Pernambués, another similar occurrence was recorded and caused death of a person.
Rain volume
According to Climatempo, this month of November, Salvador recorded a volume of precipitation that exceeded the historical average for the month by more than 100%, recording 219.5 mm of rain, surpassing the monthly average in just one week and causing disruption and harm to the population.
Occurrences
On the night of last Tuesday (26), another incident due to rain was recorded. A listed mansion collapsed in the Baixa dos Sapateiros region, one of the historic centers of Salvador. THE collapse left no victims but the incident caused the interruption of power supply in the region and the evacuation of neighboring buildings.
Families are receiving support of teams from the Secretariat for Social Promotion, Combating Poverty, Sports and Leisure (Always).
The Civil Defense of Salvador (Codesal) registered more than 116 emergency requests since midnight, including landslides, collapses, falling trees and threats of new occurrences.
