The government of Mato Grosso established on Friday (17) a situation room to monitor and assist cities affected by the intense rains that hit the region. According to Civil Defense, 16 municipalities are in a state of alert.
According to the Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies, of the Institute for Space Research (Inpe), in the first half of January, the average rainfall recorded in the state was 171.4 mm. The number represents 80% of the average recorded throughout the month of January 2024, which was 215 mm.
The municipalities of Paranatinga and Confresa are in an emergency situation and have recorded numerous flooding in streets and houses.
According to the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alerts (Cemaden), Paranatinga recorded 74 mm of rain between Thursday (16) and Friday. In Confresa, 135 mm were recorded.

Danger alert
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a danger alert for the state this Saturday (18). The forecast is valid until Sunday morning (19).
According to the agency, there is a risk of rain between 30 and 60 mm/h, intense winds of 60 to 100 km/h, electricity cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges.
