Rains leave at least 22 dead and thousands homeless in Brazil

At least 22 people died because of the heavy rains that hit eight Brazilian states in recent days. The survey was carried out by CNN Agency based on data released by the state Civil Defenses.

Deaths were registered in the following states: Bahia (1), Espírito Santo (1), Minas Gerais (2), Paraná (2), Rio de Janeiro (4), Sergipe (2), Santa Catarina (7) and São Paulo (3). In total, 187 municipalities were impacted by the storms.

According to the survey, around 22,800 people are homeless, while another 3,171 are homeless.

A person displaced by the rains is someone who has been temporarily or definitively forced to abandon their home due to the disaster, but who does not necessarily need shelter provided by public authorities.
