The term “Rio Grande do Sul ” is the 15th most searched for by Brazilians in the last seven days, according to a survey by Google Brazil, passed on exclusively to CNN . Amidst the historic flood the state is ahead of highly searched terms such as “Brasileirão”, relating to the Brazilian Football Championship.
In 20 years, The state has never been researched as much as in the last week .
The capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, is the 32nd most searched term in Brazil and the question “What happened in Rio Grande do Sul? ” is the most searched and also with the highest increase on Google in Brazil in the last week, when the first houses began to be hit by water.
The research shows that searches for Rio Grande do Sul more than doubled when comparing the last seven days with the previous period — the growth was 140%.
Brazilians also started to search more for floods and Lake Guaíba, which saw growth of 1,260% and 3,210%, respectively. This Wednesday (08), Guaíba presented for the first time a continuous drop in its flood level, according to Porto Alegre City Hall.
Another topic that registered growth on Google Brazil is “donation”, which reached the highest level of searches since the first week of April 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The other terms also showed growth in the period, with “Guaíba level” and “dam” (sudden increase). Among the most searched for are “flood of 1941” (4,450%), “flench RS” (3,900%), “dique sarandi” (3,650%), “lagoa dos patos” (2,800%) and “defense civil porto Alegre” (2,450%).
